Austrian family reunification is limited to the core nuclear family. The eligible relatives are spouses, registered partners, and unmarried minor children (this covers biological, adoptive, and stepchildren). For spouses and registered partners, both the sponsor and the applicant must have reached the age of 21 at the time the application is filed.
The exact residence title issued depends on the sponsor's own status. Family of a Red-White-Red Card holder, EU Blue Card holder, or certain settlement-permit holders generally receive a Red-White-Red Card Plus, while family of Austrian nationals receive a 'Family Member' permit. Wider relatives such as parents or adult children are not covered by ordinary family reunification.
