This permit is for third-country nationals carrying on a commercial, craft or liberal-profession activity in Luxembourg. You must show the activity is genuine and viable, hold any required authorisations, and have adequate resources and qualifications.
The Self-Employed Worker Residence Permit lets third-country nationals establish a commercial, craft or liberal-profession activity in Luxembourg. The Immigration Directorate looks for evidence that the planned activity is genuine, viable and of benefit to the Luxembourg economy, rather than a paper arrangement. You will also need any required business permit (autorisation d'etablissement) or professional authorisation, appropriate qualifications and experience, and sufficient financial resources.
Like the employment routes, it follows the two-step process: you obtain a temporary authorisation to stay before entry, then apply for the residence permit within three months of arrival. A EUR 80 residence permit fee applies, and a decision on the authorisation normally comes within about three months.
Because the viability assessment and the professional-authorisation requirements are central to a strong application, careful preparation of your business plan and credentials pays off. ACME can help you assess whether your activity meets the viability and authorisation conditions and assemble the supporting documentation, and we suggest confirming the current rules on guichet.public.lu first.
