Citizens of EU/EEA countries and Switzerland have free movement and can work in the Netherlands without a permit. Other (third-country) nationals need authorisation. The most common skilled routes are the Highly Skilled Migrant permit (filed by an IND-recognised sponsor against a salary threshold) and the European Blue Card (for highly qualified roles with a higher salary bar and a recognised diploma). Specialised routes exist for intra-corporate transfers (ICT), the self-employed, start-ups, students and researchers. The IND has up to 90 days to decide, though recognised-sponsor cases are usually much faster.
