The Residence Permit for Employment Purposes is Hungary's combined work-and-residence permit for non-EU nationals in standard jobs, restructured under the 2024 immigration law. It needs a Hungarian employment contract and is capped by an annual quota.
This is Hungary's single permit for ordinary, non-highly-qualified employment. To apply you need an employment contract, or a binding preliminary agreement, with a Hungarian employer, plus proof of accommodation in Hungary and comprehensive health insurance. Applications go through the Enter Hungary platform or a regional aliens-policing directorate.
The important catch sits in the eligibility rules. Under Act XC of 2023, which took effect on 1 January 2024, this route is subject to an annual cap, and for non-graduate roles eligibility is limited to nationals of designated countries. That makes it less broadly open than the equivalent permit in many other EU states, so confirming whether your nationality and role qualify is the first thing to check.
Because the quota and the list of designated nationalities are set by decree and updated regularly, it is worth verifying the current position on the official portal before you build plans around this route. ACME can review your job offer and nationality against the live rules and tell you quickly whether this permit or the EU Blue Card is the better fit.
