Temporary residence for study is for non-EU students accepted onto a recognised programme in Slovakia, including university and PhD studies; it can run for up to six years and allows limited work alongside studies.
Non-EU students admitted to a recognised Slovak school, university or doctoral programme can apply for temporary residence for the purpose of study under Act No. 404/2011. The starting point is a confirmation of acceptance or enrolment from the institution, which establishes the purpose of your stay.
You will also need to show sufficient financial means for your time in Slovakia, proof of accommodation, health insurance, a clean criminal record and a valid travel document. The permit can be granted for the duration of your studies up to a maximum of six years, and it allows limited work alongside your studies subject to the rules in force.
Studying in Slovakia can also be a stepping stone to staying longer, since time spent lawfully resident can count toward later routes. Because work allowances and financial-means amounts are updated periodically, confirm the current details with the Bureau of Border and Foreign Police, and reach out to ACME if you would like guidance on planning your stay beyond graduation.
