Permanent residence is generally available after five years of continuous qualifying residence in Czechia. It requires a Czech language exam at A2 level, and the resulting permit is valid for 10 years and frees you from any single purpose of stay.
This is the main route to permanent residence for third-country nationals, open after five years of continuous qualifying residence (subject to absence limits that keep the residence continuous). The resulting permit is valid for 10 years, is renewable, and removes the link to any single purpose of stay.
To qualify you must pass the Czech language exam at A2 level (with some exemptions, for example for those under 15, over 60, or who studied in Czech), and show proof of accommodation and financial means, along with a valid passport and photograph. Processing is listed at 60 days in Czechia (180 days from abroad), with a fee of CZK 2,500 (CZK 1,000 for children under 15).
The absence rules and exam format can change, so confirm the current requirements on ipc.gov.cz before applying. If you are approaching five years in Czechia and want to check whether your residence counts as continuous, ACME can review your history and help you prepare.
