Family Reunification lets the spouse, registered partner and minor children of a settled resident or Austrian citizen join them. Most adult applicants need basic German (A1) before arriving, and some categories are subject to annual quotas.
Austria's Family Reunification route lets the spouse, registered partner and minor children of a Red-White-Red Card holder, Blue Card holder, settled resident, long-term resident or Austrian citizen join them in the country. You'll need to prove the family relationship and show adequate accommodation, all-risks health insurance and stable resources, and the sponsor must hold a qualifying residence title or citizenship.
Two Austria-specific points catch people out. First, most adult applicants must show basic German at A1 level before they arrive, though there are exemptions — for example for families of EU Blue Card holders and researchers, and for children under 14. Second, some categories are subject to annual quotas, so the number of permits issued each year can be limited. Importantly, family of Red-White-Red Card holders, EU Blue Card holders, researchers and Austrian citizens are exempt from those quotas.
The application fee is EUR 218. Because quota availability and the German-language rules can shift, it's wise to confirm the current position on the official portal before you plan timelines. ACME's free initial consultation can help you check whether your sponsor's status exempts your family from the quota.
