No dedicated startup or investor visa exists. Non-EU/EFTA entrepreneurs apply under the self-employment route and must show the business serves Switzerland's overall economic interest.
Switzerland has no formal startup or investor visa programme. Non-EU/EFTA nationals who want to run their own business apply under the self-employment route, which is treated as gainful activity and is subject to the same annual quotas and labour-market rules as employment. The key test is whether the activity has a lasting positive impact and serves Switzerland's overall economic interest. Applications must include a detailed business plan covering planned activities, market analysis, workforce and recruitment plans, planned investment, and turnover and profit forecasts. Both cantonal authorities and SEM assess the application.
