Family reunification and family formation allow the partner, spouse and minor children of a person lawfully resident in the Netherlands to join them. The resident acts as sponsor and must hold a qualifying Dutch residence permit or be a Dutch or EU national. You will need to prove a genuine and exclusive relationship, whether by marriage, registered partnership or relationship.
The sponsor must usually meet a sustainable, independent income requirement, and many partners must pass the basic civic-integration exam abroad before they can travel to the Netherlands. These two conditions, income and the pre-entry exam, are often the most important to prepare for.
