Launched in 2024, this long-stay visa lets highly skilled non-EU nationals live in Italy while working remotely for clients or employers based outside Italy. It does not require a Decreto Flussi nulla osta, and the resulting permesso di soggiorno is issued for one year and is renewable.
Italy introduced its Digital Nomad / Remote Worker visa in 2024 for highly skilled non-EU remote workers and freelancers who work digitally for non-Italian companies or clients. A key advantage is that it sits outside the Decreto Flussi, so there is no nulla osta or click day to wait for. To qualify you need to show remote work for a non-Italian employer or clients (evidenced by contracts), a minimum annual income above the statutory threshold, relevant qualifications or professional experience, prior remote-work experience, health insurance, and a signed Italian lease or property deed.
The resulting permesso di soggiorno is issued for one year and is renewable, making it a practical base for living in Italy while keeping your work tied abroad. It is distinct from the Elective Residence Visa because here you do work — just remotely, for clients or employers outside Italy.
The income threshold and detailed conditions are set in regulation and can change, so confirm the current figure on the official portal before applying. ACME can help you check that your income, contracts and experience meet the criteria and assemble the documentation.
