The Companies of Foreign Interests scheme lets a qualifying foreign-owned company in Cyprus hire third-country Directors and highly skilled Key Personnel through a streamlined permit, with no labour-market test. It suits skilled non-EU staff joining a registered foreign-interest employer.
This is Cyprus's flagship national work route, and it is usually the fastest way for a skilled non-EU professional to take up a job on the island. The employer first registers as a Company of Foreign Interests — meaning majority foreign ownership or a qualifying investment, with a genuine presence in Cyprus — through the Business Support Centre. Once registered, the company can sponsor third-country Directors and Key Personnel without the labour-market test that slows down ordinary work permits.
To qualify, you generally need relevant qualifications or at least two years of relevant experience, a gross monthly salary of at least EUR 2,500 for new highly skilled or Director permits, and an employment contract of at least two years. A practical bonus is that family members of staff under this scheme enjoy more favourable reunification terms, including free labour-market access for spouses.
Because the salary level, registration conditions and documentation can be updated, it is wise to confirm the current rules with the Civil Registry and Migration Department before applying. If you are weighing a job offer from a foreign-interest company, ACME can review whether the role meets the scheme's conditions and help you prepare the application.
